 Background

Thank you for your interest in my law firm. A bit about me, I have over 28 years of professional experience in the legal system, and I have practiced law in eastern North Carolina for over two decades.  I was raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and attended college at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Criminal Justice. After graduating from college, I returned to my home town and served as a Police Officer with the Winston-Salem Police Department. After several years in law enforcement, I obtained an appointment as a Magistrate in Davidson County, North Carolina while pursuing admission into law school. I completed my legal education at the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University earning a Juris Doctor degree. I have practiced law exclusively in eastern North Carolina since 2003. Early in my legal career I served as an Assistant District Attorney in the 4th Judicial District for Craven, Carteret, and Pamlico counties. After several years as a prosecutor, I went into private practice, eventually opening my own law firm. I represent clients in the areas of speeding and traffic offenses, DWI, misdemeanor and felony criminal offenses; as well as divorce and family law cases involving child custody, child support, property distribution, spousal support (alimony), adoption, and guardianship proceedings.

 Philosophy

My professional philosophy has always been to provide practical and straightforward legal advice to my clients to aid in the decision-making process to protect your best interests with respect and integrity. I do not push a position that only benefits my name or my ego. You will be treated as I would want a family member to be treated in dealing with your legal situation. From the very start, a comprehensive action plan will be created to aid in your understanding of your legal situation and to assist in guiding you to the best outcome possible; whether that requires skillful negotiations toward reaching a settlement, engaging in alternative dispute options such as mediation or arbitration, or strong and strategic litigation in court.

 Commitment

I fully recognize the importance of understanding the expectations and goals of each client regarding your legal situation. I have been a "client" myself and understand how difficult and frustrating the legal system can be. Decades of experience have provided me with keen insight into what is necessary to achieve the best outcome possible by utilizing a unique skill set developed from a diverse professional background within the court system that no other attorney in the area can offer. The result is targeted legal advice accompanied by representation in court that is rarely matched.

 Transparency

Your fee arrangement will be memorialized in a written fee agreement that details the scope of representation and billing process so that expectations are clear from the beginning for both of us.
